Drawing and painting on ceramics

Inspired by Danielle Donaldson's,

The art of creative watercolor book,

I chose to experiment on ceramics.

I used a vintage wooden handled tracing wheel

with dark glaze on it to freehand draw the shapes,

then filled in with color and details.

I made a large vase shape to play on.

And a large bowl shape.

Just a little creative fun at the cottage by the sea!

Now available at Haven, Laguna Beach.

Floral bowl design

going for a watercolor effect on a simple bowl design

I begin with sketching the design in with a high fire marker

and then select the colors and begin painting in the design

with various glazes

then finish with a clear glaze

I am pleased with how the pencil marks show through, sweet!

Blue bird of happiness

Creating with a watercolor effect on bisque

 and inspired by my surroundings...

In the 1908 play by Belgian author Maurice Maeterlinck,
the children of a woodcutter are sent to look for the Bluebird
of happiness aided by the good fairy Berylune.
The children search through out different lands
until they find the bird in its cage.

The moral of the story,
true happiness can be found close to home.

Garden inspiration

I love spring !

New growth, new beginnings...

lovely surprises to find popping their heads up in the garden!

I am in awe of natures beauty,

and enjoy capturing it with my art.

One must have sunshine, freedom and a little flower."
